<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detector by which a response to a position detection demand is carried out quickly and unnecessary electric power consumption is suppressed. SOLUTION: A position detector is provided with a GPS receiver 2 which receives a signal from a GPS satellite so as to perform positioning, a power source 4 for the GPS receiver 2, a switch 3 turning on/off power supply to the GPS receiver 2, a control unit 5 controlling transmission of a positioning result to an external apparatus and turning on/off of the switch 3, and a timer 6 used by the control unit 5. The control unit 5 turns on the switch 3 periodically so as to let the GPS receiver 2 perform positioning and turns off the switch 3 if a position cannot be determined in a fixed. To a position detection demand from the outside, the latest positioning result by means of the GPS receiver 2 is transmitted. A quick response to a position detection demand can be accomplished, and unnecessary electric power consumption can be suppressed if a position cannot be determined.</p> |
