摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an integrated exhaust system member of an automobile which has a defectless joint part having high accuracy by joining the metal case of a catalyst converter and an exhaust manifold by friction pressure welding. SOLUTION: The catalyst converter is formed by inserting and fixing a honeycomb body into the metal case 1 to constitute a carrier and depositing the catalyst for purification of exhaust gases. The metal case 1 and the exhaust manifold 3 are joined and integrated by friction pressure welding, by which the exhaust system member for automobile is obtd. Since the friction pressure welding is solid phase joining and does not produce a liquid phase, the joining of different materials is possible. The metal case 1 and the exhaust manifold 3 may be joined by the friction pressure welding via a reducer having a deformed section. At this time, the joint having the deflectless joint part may be obtd. if the joint surface of the metal case 1 or the reducer is formed to a plate thickness of 1.0 to 2.0mm, an outside diameter of 60 to 200mm and a variation in the outside diameter within ±0.5% of the true circle.
