ADAPTER DEVICE FOR WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform reconstitution for different protocols and for different radio modem control by realizing a flexible adapter suitable for wireless networking for providing a data packet format and reconstitutable medium access control. SOLUTION: A flexible adapter (FAWN) card 56 for the wireless networking is provided with an RISC computer 62 and the RISC computer 62 controls an RF modem 64 through a modem controller 72, uses a dual port RAM 68 and performs communication with a host computer 60. The modem controller 72 is realized by using a field programmable gate array and executes many functions of a low-order level required for supporting a wireless access protocol. Thus, the FAWN card 56 is reconstituted for a medium access protocol and for a different RF modem.
