PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antifreeze and coolant composition effective in controlling the cavitation which is likely to occur in an automobile engine, particularly an engine for a large automobile by blending specified additives with an antifreeze and coolant composition comprising mainly glycols. SOLUTION: A composition used as an antifreeze and a coolant for an automobile and comprising mainly glycols is blended with 0.05-8.0wt.% p-toluic acid salt and 0.01-1.0wt.% molybdic acid salt. In addition to these additives, 0.05-8.0wt.% benzoic acid salt and/or 0.05-8.0wt.% p-tert-butylbenzoic acid can be added to the composition. The addition of the additives can effectively control the occurrence of cavitation in using the antifreeze and coolant composition. The composition does not contain a nitrous acid salt. |
