PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent color reproducibility without color irregularity in a projection image even with the use of color synthesis of dichroic mirror system by constituting the recurring pattern of each optical shield layer so as to be symmetric with respect to the vertical axis of a panel. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal light bulb is provided with a recurring pattern of an optical shield layer, and the recurring pattern is provided with a shape symmetric with respect to a vertical center axis. The liquid crystal oriented distribution of a liquid crystal light bulb 405 for green color light, bulb 406 for red, and bulb 404 for blue are mutually symmetric with respect to a plane, each having TN liquid crystal of 80 deg. left twist, 80 deg. twist for example. The recurring unit pattern of the optical shield layer of the liquid crystal light bulbs 406, 405, 404 respectively for red, green and blue color light are mutually symmetric with respect to the vertical center axes which are also in plane symmetry with each other; therefore, even if the left and right positions are reversed, the shape is completely coincidental with the one before the reversal. |
