PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a font substituting method and a character outputting device using it in which an optimal substitute font can be always selected for a request font with respect to a font substituting method and a character outputting device using it by which a substitute font is selected from among mounted fonts, and substitute output is operated. SOLUTION: A character outputting device is provided with a font information extracting part 4 which extracts font information and a weight information changing part 14 which captures and changes weight information. Also, this is provided with a font attribute extracting part 6 connected with a font attribute data base 16 which extracts a font attribute from extracted font information. An inter-font distance calculating part 8 calculates a distance between two fonts while referring to a weight information table 18. This device is also provided with a character outputting part 12 which extracts the information of a substitute font decided by a use font deciding part 10 from a font data part 20, and operates print and output. |
