<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure such a penetration depth as is equal to the thickness of a base material in short time and to increase welding speed. SOLUTION: A gap 3 for guiding a laser beam is formed continuously to the bottom of a groove 2 between the abutting faces of oppositely facing base materials 1, 1; the gap is irradiated with a laser beam 10 before arc welding; the surface of the base materials forming the gap is melted by the laser heat over the entire length in the thickness direction; and successively, the molten metal melted by the arc heat is guided to the groove and to the gap for guiding the laser beam, thereby welding both base materials.</p> |
