A process is described for preparing polyacetyl copolymer technically very stable containing a very small amount of unstable parts in a high yield in accordance with a simple process wherein an isopolyacid or an acid salt is used as a polymerization catalyst in the trioxane co-polymerization has the principal monomer wit a copolymerizable comonomer with the same, and wherein the deactivation of the catalyst can be simply effected without stopping to make contact with a basic gas after the polymerization without the necessity of any washing step: in the preparation of a polyacetyl copolymer by the trioxane copolymerization has the principal monomer with a cyclic ether or cyclic formal having at least a carbon-carbon link as a comonomer, the copolymerization is effected using an isopolyacid or an acid salt of the same as a polymerization catalyst followed by the contact with a basic gas as a deactivator for deactivating the catalyst, and fusion treatment with the subsequent heat of the resulting intact raw polymer without washing the same.
