The can (1) has flat ends (3, 4) and a cylindrical body (2). The cylindrical surface has rows of hexagonal areas (5, 6) which are alternately concave (5) or convex (6). When the can has been filled and sealed, adhesive is applied to the cylindrical surface. A machine wraps the label around the can. The label is then pressed onto the can as it is rotated in contact with a soft faced roller.
