A method for welding together large pipes, profiles etc. comprises securing angled brackets or plates (3, 4) to each end (8, 9) of the pipe by eg. spot welding, then engaging the grip cavity (10) of a lifting tool (2) with the bracket on the first pipe end and also using the tool to support the bracket on the second pipe end, and then using eg. a screw device (5) to make the lifting tool raise the second pipe end until the two pipe ends are flush with each other. The screw device can be moved towards the second pipe end bracket (3) in order to move this pipe in its length direction into the desired welding position, at which point the two pipe ends are welded together, initially using spot welding. The apparatus used for this method is also claimed. |
