The present invention refers to a process for the production of the isomers (r) and (s)- alpha- methyl- 3(trifluoromethyl)benzeneethamine, from which second one can be used as an intermediate compound on anorexic medication synthesis, dexphenfluramine (INN), process which comprises carrying on a reducing animation, stereo-specific, of 1-(3-trifluoromethyl) phenyl-2-propanone with (R) or (S)-alpha-methylbenzilamine, under hydrogen atmosphere, in the presence of a catalyst, and to unbenzilate resulting diastereoisomer (R), (R) or (s), (S)-N- (1-phenylethyl) -alpha -methyl- 3-(trifluoromethyl) benzeenethamine, through treatment with hydrogen and catalyst.
