PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the new subject compound being a specific pyrroloquinolin-1- one compound, excellent in agricultural and horticultural microbicidal activities, hardly causing chemical injury, and manifesting a prominent effect against plant pathogenic bacteria, especially rice blast as an agricultural microbicide, etc., manifesting high penetration and translocation. SOLUTION: This new microbicidal active compound is a compound (salt) of formula I [R<1> is a halogen, a 1-6C lower (halo)alkyl, a 1-6C lower (halo) alkoxy, a 3-7C lower cycloalkyl or a 3-7C lower cycloalkyloxy; R<2> is H or a halogen; R<3> is H, a 1-6C lower alkyl or a 3-7C lower cycloalkyl; a dotted line is a single bond or a double bond], (e.g. 7-fluoro-1,2,5,6-tetrahydro-4H- pyrrolo[3,2,1-i,j]quinolin-4-one) and useful as an agricultural or horticultural microbicide, etc. The compound is obtained by reducing indole to provide indoline compound, reacting the indoline compound with a chlorine-substituted acid chloride of the formula ClCH(R<3> )CH2 COCl to provide a compound of formula H, and further subjecting the compound of formula II to a Friedel-Crafts reaction in the presence of a Lewis acid. |
