PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high combustion rate by the utilization of a small amount of catalyst by using a hydrocarbon combustion catalyst carrying platinum and palladium or rhodium at a ratio obtained from a specific formula from the combustion temperature. SOLUTION: A catalyst carries platinum and palladium or rhodium on the carrier at the ratio of a:b in the range found from the combustion temperature T by a numerical formula represented by a formula. As a precious metal used for the catalyst, a composition of platinum and palladium or a composition of platinum and rhodium is used. These precious metals are formed usually by using powder available in the market as metal salt to prepare a metal salt solution for carrying the solution on a carrier. As for the amount of precious metal carried on the catalyst carrier, the total precious metal amount of approximately 0.05-20 wt.% of the carrier weight is preferable, and more preferably approximately 0.1-10 wt.%. The activities of the catalyst composite carried on the carrier become higher in the certain range of temperature, and as the combustion temperature T, usually the temperature in the range of approximately 100-350 deg.C is suitable. |
