<p>A catheter apparatus (10) having a housing (15) with a throughbore (19). A seal (30) is mounted within the throughbore (19). The seal (30) has a peripheral sealing surface (32) that contacts an external surface (46) of a sleeve (45) when the sleeve (45) is mounted within the throughbore (19). A one-way valve (40) or check valve is mounted within the throughbore (19), preferably between the peripheral sealing surface (32) and the sleeve (45). When the sleeve (45) is withdrawn from the throughbore (19), the one-way valve (40) prevents fluid, such as a blood sample, from flowing outside of the housing (15).</p> |
