Synthesis of beta zeolite

Synthesis of beta zeolite. In this invention a new method for the synthesis of beta zeolite is claimed, characterised in that the presence of alkaline cations is avoided in the preparation of the synthesis mixture. The beta zeolite obtained is characterised by its small crystal size, its ability to form stable colloidal suspensions and in that through calcination it can be used to obtain the acid form without making use of cation exchange processes. Use of the material obtained in catalytic processes for the conversion of hydrocarbons, for the preparation of zeolitic membranes and as an activator in other zeolite syntheses is claimed. The method comprises heating a reaction mixture containing a source of silicon, a source of aluminium, a structure-controlling organic cation such as hydroxide and water at 363-473 K avoiding the presence of alkaline cations. A colloidal suspension of beta zeolite from which the zeolite can be separated is obtained.
