PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve running feeling without carrying out gear change for shift down while a vehicle is turning a corner by setting an upper limit gear change step and calculating horizontal turning acceleration to process a speed at the upper limit gear change step. SOLUTION: An automatic transmission controller 12 detects a car speed by a gear change processing means, and a car speed sensor 44 detects a car speed. A recommended gear change step determining means 101 determines a recommended gear change step of an automatic transmission which corresponds to a car speed and a road situation, and an upper limit gear change step determining means 103 sets an upper limit gear change step based on the recommended gear change step. A horizontal turning acceleration calculation means 105 calculates horizontal turning acceleration, and a gear change restricting means 106 restricts gear change. The automatic transmission controller 12 performs gear change processing at the upper limit gear change step. Consequently, gear change is restricted when horizontal turning acceleration exceeds a reference value. Accordingly, gear change for shift down is not done while a vehicle is turning a corner so that running feeling can be improved.
