PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder unit for the magnetic recording/reproducing operation capable of stably performing the magnetic recording/reproducing operation having the low tape running load and being hardly influenced by the fluctuation of the tape running speed, even though the magnetic tape having any coefficient of friction is used and the surroundings of cylinder are in the environment with any temperature and humidity, by constituting the magnetic tape so as to run floating from the upper fixed cylinder by the air. SOLUTION: The magnetic tape 6 runs along a lead 3a provided on the lower fixed cylinder 3 by a middle cylinder rotating system consisting of the middle rotating cylinder 2, lower fixed cylinder 3 and upper fixed cylinder 1. The upper end part of the magnetic tape 6 is made to be overlapped so that the air rolled in by the middle cylinder 2 is hardly escaped from the inlet side of the tape winding or the upper end part of the magnetic tape 6, and also a level difference part 1a is arranged on the upper fixed cylinder 1.
