Rotary drum, esp. for floor sander

The drum has a cylindrical hub (2) rotated about its axis and a sleeve (3) of an elastically deformable material round it. The sleeve has parallel lengthwise slits (6) at regular intervals and is covered by a layer (5) of an abrasive material. The slits (6) are inclined relative to the dia. of the drum in the opposite direction to the drum's rotation. The angle of inclination is 30 - 45 degrees to the diametrical plane.
