PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device preventing deterioration in contrast due to a phase difference caused by a tilt of a liquid crystal molecule when a voltage isn't applied and coping with both high luminance and high contrast when negative dielectric anisotropy is assembled with a vertical oriented film. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device assembling the negative dielectric anisotropy with the vertical oriented film is used in a normally black mode, and a phase difference plate 4 for compensating the phase difference caused by the tilt of the liquid crystal molecule when the voltage isn't applied is provided adjacent to a liquid crystal cell 1. Thus, a light transmittance when the voltage isn't applied is suppressed remarkably low, and the contrast is improved remarkably. |
