PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the fluctuation in liquid crystal gap accompanying the resticking of polarizing plates. SOLUTION: This display device is constituted by holding a liquid crystal layer LC in the bonding gap of a first substrate SUB1 and a second substrate SUB2 and has a first polarizing plate POL1 adhered to the first substrate SUB1 and a second polarizing plate POL2 on the second substrate SUB2. The eight transmittance of the liquid crystal layer is changed by the electric field components generated approximately parallel with the substrates between the pixel electrodes and counter electrodes formed on the first substrate SUB1 to display images. In such a case, the strength of adhesion of an adhesive layer for adhering the first polarizing plate POL1 to the first substrate SUB1 and an adhesive layer for adhering the second polarizing plate POL2 onto the transparent conductive films ITO formed on the second substrate SUB2 is so set as not to exceed about 650 g/20 mm in the strength of adhesion to glass.
