PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image decoder where a small capacity of an image memory is sufficient. SOLUTION: A sub-sample section 1 samples a pixel data matrix included in reproduced image data in a lattice form at an interval of one and the result is stored in reference image memories 2, 3. Interpolation sections 4, 5 interpolate pixel data to missing positions of the pixel data matrix read from the memories 2, 3 to produce reference image data. In comparison with a conventional method where reproduced image data have been stored in the memories without any modification, the memory capacity by this embodiment is only one half. |
