PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain an appropriate inter-vehicle distance without frequent applications of a brake by providing a second deceleration means to provide the deceleration force to a vehicle not accompanied by the operation of a brake lamp, and operating a second deceleration means prior to the operation of the first deceleration means accompanied by the operation of the brake lamp. SOLUTION: A distance control ECU 4 and an engine ECU 5 achieve the deceleration by a brake accompanied by the operation of a brake lamp after achieving the deceleration by the fuel cut, the deceleration by the overdrive cut, and the deceleration by the shift-down in this order which are deceleration not accompanied by the brake lamp. Distance control devices 2, 32 can obtain the deceleration of a certain degree through each deceleration not accompanied by the operation of the brake lamp before the deceleration by he brake is achieved, and the frequent applications of the brake can be prevented. |
