<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a particulate trap regenerative even in the case of engine required fuel not lasting in a large quantity area. SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine is provided with a particulate trap 2 disposed in an engine exhaust system 1, and an inflow preventing means 3a preventing exhaust gas from flowing into at least a part of the particulate trap 2 at the time of operation. In the case of dividing an area of engine required fuel into a large quantity area, a medium quantity area and a small quantity area, in the case of an engine operating state where engine required fuel does not last in the large quantity area so as not to be able to continue combustion of particulates collected in the particulate trap 2 by exhaust gas flow, the inflow preventing means 3a is operated, and the operation of the inflow preventing means 3a is stopped after the lapse of a specified period.</p> |
