To stitch together two overlaid fabrics, with a single thread, a chain stitch (1, 4, 5) is used with inserted knots (6). To execute the stitching, a needle forms a loop at the fabric, and the material is advanced by one step, and a second loop is formed. The first loop is threaded through the second loop, and the thread is pulled to tighten the second loop. The process is repeated with the movement of the material by one step forwards, and a third loop is formed within the first loop between the second loop and the end of the first loop. The knot (6) is formed by a slip knot.
