<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain carbon coated titanium nitride-contg. titania powder excellent in slidability and wear resistance as well as in reinforcing performance and electric conductivity and capable of also inhibiting the wear of dies by firing titania or a titanate compd. by heating in the presence of a nitrogen-contg. org. compd. in a nonoxidizing atmosphere and coating at least part of the surface of the resultant titanium nitride-contg. titania powder with carbon. SOLUTION: The carbon coated titanium nitride-contg. titania powder has a fiber shape having 1-20μm fiber length and 0.1-1μm fiber diameter and contains 5-25 wt.% titanium nitride(TiN). The coating weight of the carbon is 1-30 wt.%. The nitrogen-contg. org. compd. is not particularly limited and melamine, (meth)acrylamide or dicyandiamide is, e.g., used. Melamine is preferably used because it is excellent in nitriding efficiency. The ratio of the nitrogen-contg. org. compd. to the titanium source compd. is not particularly limited but the compds. are preferably used in a Ti to N molar ratio of 1:1 to 1:10. The firing temp. is 700-1,100 deg.C.</p> |
