<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field emission type cold cathode free of generation of a leak current even through a long time service. SOLUTION: A field emission type cold cathode is composed of an insulating layer 2 provided on a conductive board 1, a gate electrode 3, and an approx. conical emitter 4 having a sharp tip which is furnished in a cavity 6 formed in the insulating layer 2 where the gate electrode 3 is opened, wherein the emitter 4 is located on a projection 11 furnished on the board 1 by forming a step 7, and the cavity 6 is formed while the whole upper part of the step 7 around the projection 11 is exposed so that a dead angle for the emitter 4 is generated by the step 7 on the side wall of the insulating layer 2.</p> |
