The present invention discloses a method of preventing or treating a viral infection, hepatic failure, hepatic necrosis or other conditions caused by toxic agents or by autoimmune reaction, the said method comprising administering an ammonium chloride (NHCl) dosage form in an amount comprised between 2 and 5 g a day for 3 days, and stopping the administration for 4 days, and repeating the said cycle for 1-6 months.
