PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a side air bag device while detecting bend of a side part at the time of side surface collision by connecting a lead wire for leading out the stress exciting polarization current to an inner panel positioned over a preceding bending part or an inner panel positioned under the preceding bending part or a locker part. SOLUTION: A lower end part of an inner panel 1b positioned a little over a locker 3 provided at a position, in which a danger to an occupant at the time of side surface collision is relatively small, is ordinarily bent into a recessed shape so as to form a preceding buckling part 5 to be buckled preceding by the predetermined collision load. When the preceding buckling part 5 is buckled at the time of side surface collision, the stress exciting polarization current is supplied to an amplifier through a lead wire 19 of an electrode 10 positioned over and under the preceding buckling part 5, and a starting means is operated by the amplified output so as to cause the expansion of a side air bag device. The stress exciting polarization current is also detected in the case where the inner panel 1b over the preceding buckling part 5 is buckled. With this structure, high reliability at the time of collision at a high speed or low speed is obtained. |
