PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject fiber having high tenacity, elasticity and wet-heat resistance and useful for industrial material, etc., without using complicate process by crosslinking a polyvalent epoxy compound under specific condition in a state e.g. included in a polyvinyl alcohol polymer, etc. SOLUTION: The objective polyvinyl alcohol synthetic fiber is produced by including or applying preferably 0.1-10 mol.% (based on the repeating constituent unit of the polymer) of a polyvalent epoxy compound such as ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether into a polyvinyl alcohol polymer (having a degree of saponification of preferably 90-99.99 mol.%) or to the surface of the fiber of the polymer and crosslinking the polyvinyl alcohol polymer by reacting the epoxy compound with the hydroxyl group of the polyvinyl alcohol polymer by the aid of a basic catalyst such as sodium acetate. |
