PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a suede-like fabric/elastomer composite which is nontoxic and environmentally safe, has only a low odor, contains a noncombustible chemical substance, and is aesthetically satisfactory by impregnating a fabric with an elastomer compsn. contg. an aq. polyurethane latex, a thermally activable acid-generating chemical substance, and a cloud-point surfactant and heating the impregnated fabric. SOLUTION: A fabric made of fibers selected from among fibers of a polyester, a nylon, cotton, a polyester/cotton mixture, wool, ramie, Likra, and their mixtures can be used. As the thermally activable acid-generating chemical substance, an org. acid ester is used, a pref. example being ethylene glycol diacetate. An example of a pref. cloud-point surfactant is a polyalkoxylated amine. In the elastomer compsn., the wt. ratio of a polyurethane latex in the aq. polyurethane latex to water is pref. from about 1/30 to about 3/1; and the wt. ratios of the polyurethane latex to the acid-generating chemical substance and to the cloud-point surfactant are each pref. from about 40/1 to about 100/1. |
