PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which can emit all incident light on a liquid crystal cell from an absorption type polarizing film at an upper surface, improve the utilization factor of the light toward an incident light on the liquid crystal cell and improve contrast on a display picture. SOLUTION: Among lights emitted and outgoing from a backlight 1 and transmitted through a liquid crystal cell 2, light with a direction of polarization vertical to a direction of polarization of an absorption type polarizing film 5 is reflected by a reflection type polarizing film 7 before being made incident on the absorption type polarizing film 5, is returned to a surface of the backlight 1 while being again transmitted through the liquid crystal cell 2, is scattered on the surface of the backlight 1 and is reused as the exit light from the backlight 1. |
