A method for determining at least one physico-chemical property of a petroleum fraction is described in which a conventional analysis of the property is done for a reference petroleum sample set; each reference sample is analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with an atomic emission detector (GC-AED) to determine the distribution of an element from the group of carbon, hydrogen, sulfur, and nitrogen, as a function of the boiling points of the components of the sample, and the coefficients of the correlative model are determined from all of the data. The petroleum fraction whose property is to be determined is analyzed by chromatography under the same conditions, and the data that are obtained are multiplied by the coefficients of the model to determine the value of said property as a function of the boiling points of its components. Application to the determination of the cetane number as a function of the distillation profile of the components of the petroleum fraction. |
