SERPENTINE PATTERN DATA SEARCH USING A MEMORY DEVICE OF A TAPE CARTRIDGE

PURPOSE: A serpentine pattern data search using a memory device of a tape cartridge is provided, which performs an optimum search of a data stored as a serpentine pattern to a tape medium. CONSTITUTION: The data storing system comprises: a tape medium for storing a data as a serpentine pattern; a memory device (35) for storing a device block map to the tape medium; a memory interface (60) for transmitting the data by the memory device (35); a tape driver (70) for locating a tape cartridge to the memory interface (60) for reading and/or writing the data as the serpentine pattern to the tape medium and locating the tape medium for writing and/or reading the data; and a controller (91) to be connected to the memory interface (60) for processing the device block map from the memory device (35) according to the location of the tape cartridge. Thereby, it is possible to improve the accessing speed of the data stored as the serpentine pattern to the tape medium.
