DISPLAY DEVICE AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a bright semi-transmitting reflection type display device. SOLUTION: A polarizing plate 14 is provided on the upside of TN (twisted nematic) liq. crystal panel 10, and a light scattering body 15 and a polarizing separator 16 are successively provided on the downside. The polarizing separator 16 transmit a linearly polarized component being parallel with a paper plane and reflect a vertical linearly polarized component on light incident from the upside, and is capable of emitting the linearly polarized component being parallel with the paper plane to upward on light entered from the downside. External light being incident on a display device becomes bright display by being reflected with the polarizing separator 16 in switch-off and dark display by passing through the polarizing separator 16 in a switch-on. Light from the light source 17 becomes dark display by absorption by the polarizing plate 12 after transmitting through the polarizing separator 16 in switch-off and bright display after transmitting through the polarizing separator 16 and also the polarizing plate 14 in switch-on.
