摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a color display to be performed without adopting color filters and to improve the luminance of a display screen of a liquid crystal display element by using reflection plates which select any light ray from among the light rays of three primary colors from the external light entering from the display screen and reflect the light ray toward the respective pixels of the three primary colors of the liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: The external light 8 entering from the display surface of a liquid crystal display panel 16 arrives at the reflection plates 5a to 5c by passing a polarizing plate 6, a phase difference plate 7, and an upper transparent glass substrate 1 in order. The liquid crystal display panel 16 is provided with the reflection plates 5a to 5c facing segment electrodes 3a to 3c for red, green and blue. Fresnel lenses constituting specific wavelength reflection means are formed in the regions corresponding to the respective pixels (the intersection points of the respective segment electrodes 3a to 3c and common electrodes 4) of the reflection plates 5a to 5c. The light rays are reflected by the reflection plates 5a to 5c, are passed through the upper transparent glass substrate 1, the phase difference plate 7, and the polarizing plate 6 in order and are emitted as exit light rays 9 from the display screen of the liquid crystal display panel 16.
