摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with a reference gas having a known hydrogen partial pressure by measuring an electromotive force according to a difference between a hydrogen partial pressure in a generated reference gas and a hydrogen partial pressure in a measurement gas. SOLUTION: When this hydrogen gas sensor is exposed in a measurement gas, respective electrodes 5, 7 surface sides of solid electrolytes 2, 3 contact with hydrogen gas, so that hydrogen in the measuring gas becomes a proton to generate an electron near the electrode 5 applied with a positive voltage of a DC voltage source 10. The protons move through the solid electrolyte 2 to reach an electrode 6, while the electrons reach the electrode 6 through the electrode 5, a lead wire 9, and the DC voltage source 10 to react with the protons. As a result, hydrogen gas having a known hydrogen partial pressure proportional to the voltage is generated on the electrode 6 so as to be stored in a reference gas chamber 17. The generated reference gas having the known hydrogen partial pressure contacts with an electrode 8 so that an electromotive force according to a difference between the hydrogen partial pressure of the generated gas and the hydrogen partial pressure of the measurement gas contacting with the electrode 7 is generated between the electrode 8 and the electrode 7. By measuring the electromotive force with an electromotive measuring means 12, a hydrogen gas density in the measurement gas can be detected.
