PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a transmitter to select music outputted at a reception side without allowing any surrounding person to directly recognize the incoming of an electronic mail. SOLUTION: This method for informing the incoming of an electronic mail to be transmitted and received in a computer network comprises a detecting procedure S1 for detecting the incoming of an electronic mail, music information extracting procedure S8 for extracting music information selected and applied to the incoming electronic mail at the transmission side or an identification code for specifying the music information, and reproducing and outputting procedure S13 for reproducing and outputting music based on the extracted music information or music specified by the identification code.
