The use of adhesive-carrying thread, which is laid in a zigzag pattern over the assembly joints between the strips is a known method for the edge joining of veneer strips. The thinner the veneer the more such an assembly thread will manifest itself by its thickness when the thread-carrying side of the veneer is applied against the substrate, and the more difficult it will be to deliver adhesive in well-dosed quantities to the strip edges. The invention recognises, however, that this problem can be effectively overcome by still making use of the said adhesive-carrying thread but laying the thread directly between the veneer edges in a continuous straight line, so that this thread is utilised as an adhesive-dosing means without making use of resistance of the thread to compression. <IMAGE>
