PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further enhance NOx purifying activity in an exhaust gas purifying catalyst used in exhaust gas containing oxygen excessively. SOLUTION: A exhaust gas purifying catalyst consists of a carrier containing a porous oxide, an oxide having oxygen occluding and discharging capacity and having a first noble metal supported thereon and zeolite and a second noble metal supported on the carrier. The oxygen occluding and discharging capacity of the oxide having oxygen occluding and discharging capacity is enhanced by the first noble metal, and oxygen discharged from the oxide having oxygen occluding and discharging capacity is reacted with HC1 adsorbed on zeolite by the catalytic action of the second noble metal and NOx is reduced and purified by formed activated HC1. |
