The sensing system includes a number of asynchronous sensors (31) for detecting certain variety of characteristics of objects moving along a conveyor, and transmitting the results of the detection. A mixer (8) receives signal output from the sensors (31) and adds an identifier representing the method of detection and the data obtained by the sensors. A processor (5) receives the transmitted data from the mixer (8) and processes the detection results of the various physical characteristics.
