PURPOSE: A motion estimator is provided to estimate a motion between a current frame and a previous frame by using temporal correlation of pictures. CONSTITUTION: A motion estimator comprises a previous frame reconstruction portion(240), a block matching portion(250), a search area estimation portion(260), a candidate block separation portion(270), and a motion estimation portion(280). The previous frame reconstruction portion moves each block of a n-1th frame as much as corresponding previous motion vectors and generates moved motion blocks. The block matching portion matches the motion blocks of the n-1 th frame on search blocks of a n-th frame to detect overlapped motion blocks and calculates an overlapped area of the overlapped motion blocks. The search area estimation portion calculates a search area estimation vector and generates a search area of M*M size. The candidate block separation portion separates the search area of the n-1 th frame into a multitude of candidate blocks having the same size as the search block. The motion estimation portion calculates similarity between the search block and the candidate blocks and detects a motion vector between the most similar blocks. |
