PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic composition having anti-tyrosinase activity, exhibiting excellent skin whitening effect and moisture retaining effect by making the composition include Platycodon grandiflorum or its extract. SOLUTION: This composition contains preferably 0.001-20 wt.%, calculated as solid content (the solid content of a plant used in the extraction in the case of an extract) based on the whole composition, of Platycodon grandiflorum (perennial of the family Campanulaceae and the place of production is Hokkaidou, Miyagi, Iwate, Nagoya Prefectures, or the like). The extract is obtained by extraction using a solvent such as a hydrophilic organic solvent e.g. water or an alcohol or its mixed liquid suitably extracting the active ingredient of Platycodon grandiflorum [e.g. compounds shown by formula I to formula III] by a cold immersion method, a warm immersion method, or the like.
