PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a skin preparation for external use, containing the extract of yezoensis, effective for preventing and improving pigmentation after sunburn, spots freckles, liver spots, darkenings, etc., and having excellent safety. SOLUTION: This skin preparation for external use contains the extract of yezoensis. The skin preparation for external preferably contains a fraction which is fractionated from the extract of the yezoensis by a silica gel thin layer chromatography and exhibits a Rf value of 0.83 [the developing solvent is chloroform and methanol (4:1)]. The solvent for the extract of the yezoensis includes methanol and acetone. The content of the extract of the yezoensis is preferably 0.001-10 wt.% (as the weight of dried extract) based on the total weight of the preparation for the external use. The preparation for the external use may be prepared into the form of an ointment, a cream, a milky lotion, a pack agent, a skin lotion, etc. The skin preparation for the external use may be compounded with a melanin production inhibitor, a UV light absorbent, a UV light-diffusing agent, an anti-inflammatory agent etc.
