PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically generate reverberating sounds which is satisfactorily connected aurally to initially reflecting sounds and satisfactorily approximating a natural and intrinsic echo-time pattern. SOLUTION: A return map expressing probability distribution for changes with time in sound-series data is prepared, based on a series of initially reflecting sounds Ai (gi, ti)}, [i=0 to n] made up of pairs, arrival sound amplitude gi and arrival time ti, fetched via a memory from an initial echo memory part. Based on the return map, a series of reverberating sounds Ai}, [i=(n+1) to (n+e)] is successively generated and added to the series of initially reflecting sounds. By incorporating a series of reflecting sounds Ai}, [i=0 to (n+e)] into an input acoustic signal AS, an output acoustic signal with desired reverberations added thereto is obtained.
