PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain functional microcapsules simply by encapsulating an optional oily substance with an optional membrane material by a method in which oil drops containing an oily substance to be encapsulated, a vinyl monomer and a polymeric plasticizer are dispersed in water and polymerized, the polymer is deposited around the drops, and the plasticizer is removed. SOLUTION: An oily substance which can be converted into microcapsules does not hinder radical polymerization in general, for example, has solubility in water at 25 deg.C of 1 wt.% or below, and is soluble in a monomer composition forming a membrane material to be capsules at a polymerization temperature. A vinyl monomer is active to radical polymerization, and its polymer is insoluble in an encapsulating material and water of a dispersing medium. A plasticizer plasticizes the polymer and lowers its glass transition temperature and can be removed by some method. Hydrophilic organic compounds or 1-5C alcohols are used preferably as the plasticizer. |
