The invention relates to an insert valve for animal waterers which can be inserted into a water outlet (6) of a cattle or horse waterer. The valve comprises a valve housing (16) through which water is able to flow and which presents a water inlet (26) designed to face a water supply (4) of the waterer and a water outlet (22). A conical valve body which is mounted at one end of a two-part valve stem (37) and cooperates with a conical valve seat (28) provided for in a screw (23) situated in the face end of the housing is spring-loaded by a pressure spring (38) such that it is in a shut position and can be mechanically moved into an open position in which the water supply (4) and water outlet (22) are connected. Since the valve seat (28) is positioned in the area of the water inlet (26) the valve parts situated inside the valve remain dry when said valve is closed, which prevents malfunctioning or damage caused by frost.
