PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize self recovery without stopping the running of an entire system when the stop position of a recording medium is shifted from a transfer position. SOLUTION: A cassette library 1 is provided with a junction console 1J having a junction port for moving a recording medium, e.g. a cassette, between the first transfer position of a console column L1 and the second transfer position of a console column L2, a counting means 160 for counting a value proportional to the moving distance of the cassette, a determining section 161 for determining whether the recording medium is stopped or not within a specified range from the first or second transfer position when the recording medium is stopped in any one of the first and second transfer positions, and a self recovery means 162 for moving the recording medium into the specified range when it is determined by the determining section 161 that the recording medium is not stopped within the specified range.
