PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To connect strip-like metal sheets to each other without forming any stepped portions or projecting portions. SOLUTION: A proceeding sheet B1 and a succeeding sheet B2 are respectively held by an outlet side clamping device 41 and an inlet side clamping device 42, and in that state, end faces opposite to each other are butted to each other on a back bar 451 by moving the outlet side clamping device 41 and the inlet side clamping device 42 in the direction approaching each other. The preceding sheet B1 is laser beam welded to the succeeding sheet B2 by moving a laser beam emission torch 452 along a butted portion while the butted portion of the preceding sheet B1 and the succeeding sheet B2 is irradiated with the laser beam from the laser beam emission torch 452.
