<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new benzylazide compound useful as a reagent for forming a protecting group of hydroxy group, mercapto group, amino group, etc., and deprotectable under neutral condition. SOLUTION: The objective compound is expressed by formula I (R1 is a reactive functional group, preferably a nucleophilic eliminable group such as OH; R2 is H, a halogen, nitro, cyano, a 1-6C alkyl or a 1-6C alkoxy), e.g. 2- azidomethylbenzoic acid. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a methylbenzoic acid derivative of formula II with a halogenation reagent and a free radical reaction initiation reagent to obtain a compound of formula III, reacting the product with an azidation reagent and hydrolyzing the produced ester of formula IV.</p> |
