PURPOSE: A propellant module assembly is provided to be used in a vehicle air bag system. More particularly, an air bag inflation system is provided that utilizes a liquid propellant as the source of inflation gas for the air bag. CONSTITUTION: A propellant module assembly(2) is adapted for containing a liquid propellant which is used to inflate a vehicular air bag. The module assembly(2) includes an igniter; a liquid propellant; a propellant and igniter capsule(4,18); and a reputable closure member(26). The capsule(4,18) and rupturable member(26) are compatible with, and does not deteriorate as a result of contact with the liquid propellant. The liquid propellant, when ignited, does not produce toxic gases, and does not subject vehicle occupants to the possibility of chemical burns, as can occur with solid propellants.
